WATERCOLOUR 1960 LISTED ARTIST
[PWT]

WILLIAM GEORGE TUCK (LISTED ARTIST 1900-1999) UNFRAMED WATER COLOUR 1960 VILLAGE VIEW ALSO HAS PAINTING OF SIMILAR TYPE ON REVERSE SIDE SO IT CAN BE FRAMED IN SUCH A WAY THAT WILL ALLOW THE PAINTING TO BE TURNED AROUND EVVERY SO OFTEN SO THAT YOU HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE PAINTING TO VIEW. TWO PAINTINGS IN ONE, UNUSUAL. William George Tuck was born on 25 May 1900. His birth was registered in Leyton, East London. He lived at 65 Holme Road, East Ham, London E6 from birth until age 86, when he moved to a flat in Wanstead, E11 - after the local council compulsorily purchased his house for redevelopment of the area. He trained as a toolmaker. At the age of 16, during the First World War, he was engaged in the quality control of magnetos. These devices were used in aircraft. In today’s world this would seem a huge responsibility for someone of such a young age. William took an interest in painting as a child, but it always remained a hobby and therefore he has remained largely unnoticed in the art world. William George Tuck was adjudged to be the best artist in the Water Colour Section at the seventh Exhibition of the South Eastern Federation of Art Societies at the Guildhall, London and again during 1957 and 1962. He also displayed 50 paintings at the Passmore Edwards Museum in Romford Road, London E15 during the year 1974, at the age of 74, when he was chairman of the South Eastern Federation of Art Societies. He also held an exhibition at Galeria, Maldon High Street. He twice had pictures accepted by the Royal Academy, but ultimately these were not hung. William Tuck painted English landscapes around Suffolk and Essex including Lavenham, Leigh, Heybridge, Tilbury and Maldon. However, many of his more colourful and lively paintings were on Mediterranean subjects in Malta, Cyprus and Spain. He also visited Portugal and the Loire, France. He always painted “on site” – never from photographs. William Tuck died on 11 January 1999 at the age of 98 after an outbreak of flu in a residential home, into which he moved during March 1997.
